Katie Sparrow, LMFT

Hello! I’m Katie Sparrow, a licensed marriage and family therapist. I love being a therapist and find it endlessly interesting and rich to walk alongside my clients as they do the transformational work of healing themselves and their relationships. Clients often describe me as empathetic, curious, and direct. I take an active role in therapy where you are always the expert of your own life, and I bring a variety of tools and therapy modalities to the table.
I grew up with an extended family of psychologists, psych nurses, social workers, and therapists, and for as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by the complexity of humans and all that we go through. I have worked in the mental health field since 1998. In the past I’ve worked with people with severe and persistent mental illness and their families, and with survivors of domestic violence.
As far as what happens in a therapy session with me, I tailor my approach to what you need. For couples I use both Gottman and Emotional Focused Therapy, while frequently weaving in polyvagal, somatic, and narrative therapy. For individuals, I often use narrative therapy, somatic therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. All of these therapies are empirically validated, and I’m always happy to talk in session about what therapy I am using and why.
When I’m not being a therapist, I am a science fiction and fantasy author, a parent, and a cat wrangler. I have a daily mindfulness practice. I have greatly benefited from psychotherapy myself, and believe in the deep healing power of telling the stories of your life in new and deeper ways.
I look forward to connecting with you.
